Word of the Day
Unicorn
It is a startup valued at $1 billion or more
The term was first used because such companies were considered as rare as the mythical creature.
Examples: Flipkart, Paytm, and OYO before they got listed.
They are usually young tech-driven companies that grow very fast and attract huge investor funding.
But not all stay successful — many find it hard to make profits even with high valuations.
They are high-risk, high-reward businesses.
6 Day Course
Theme: thematic funds
Day 5: Friday
Let’s take a look at some categories of sectoral funds and themes.
Infrastructure funds: these funds are heavily dependent on government spending on infrastructure since the companies in this space earn a good portion of their revenue from government projects.
Pharma funds: they are sensitive to foreign export and related factors since many pharmaceutical companies in India earn by exporting generic medicines to the west.
IT sector funds: these too are dependent on exports and immigration regulations because a big portion of their revenue comes from western markets.
Consumer funds: these invest in consumer companies that are susceptible to spending patterns. Inflation and interest rates play a big role in this sector.
PSU sector funds: these are dependent on government policy since the government decides how much priority a PSU will give to profits versus public welfare.
Similarly, every sector has factors that affect it disproportionately.
This is why it is important to understand each sector well before investing in funds from it.
Featured Question
“If a person sold mutual fund units and invest the whole amount are part amount in mutual funding same or other mutual fund than on this amount capital gains not count”
Capital gains are counted every time a withdrawal is made.
It does not matter if the withdrawn amount is used for spending or is re-invested.
This is why you may have capital gains every time you withdraw.
And capital gains may attract taxes.
This is true even in case of STP, regular to direct switch, rebalancing, and so on — they are all counted as withdrawal. They all have capital gains.
