It is money borrowed by a company (bond) without offering any asset as collateral.
Say a company wants to raise money. They raise money from investors, and in return, the company promises to pay them interest regularly and return their money when the bond matures. This is called a bond.
The key terms to note in this are ‘senior’ and ‘unsecured’.

- Unsecured: the company has not pledged any asset as collateral for the loan.
Other terms are:
- Secured: bond is backed by assets
