Word of the Day
Consumer Price Index (CPI)
It is a measure of inflation in a country
It tracks the changes in prices of a fixed basket of goods and services over time.
This basket is representative of the demand in the economy. It includes essentials like food, clothing, housing as well as transportation, electricity, healthcare, etc.
CPI reflects the change in cost of living and purchasing power. When CPI rises, inflation is rising; when CPI falls, inflation is easing.
6 Day Course
Theme: AIF
Day 5: Friday
Tax on AIFs is a bit complicated. Different AIFs are taxed differently.
Category 1 and 2 AIFs have a pass-through structure in case of taxation.
This means that the tax has to be paid by the investor (except business income tax).
So any interest, dividend, capital gains etc the AIF investment makes is taxed to the investor and the appropriate tax rates apply.
This means in case of some portions of the investment, capital gains tax would apply, and some would be taxed according to the investor’s tax slab.
Category 3 AIFs
These AIFs are taxed at the fund level and double taxation does not happen at the investor’s level.
Featured Questions
“How long is the bull run of gold/silver expected to be? Should one invest in long term gold options at this point?”
It is impossible to tell how long a bull or bear cycle will last.
Some people have informed opinions on this matter. But they are opinions — not facts.
If we look at history, we realise that there is no clear repeating pattern in the bull or bear run of silver, gold, nifty, other sectors, etc.
