Word of the Day
Hedging
It is a strategy used to protect your investments against risks
It can act like an insurance for your investments.
It works by making a second investment (hedge) that moves in the opposite direction of your primary investment.
If the primary investment loses value, the hedge can help reduce your losses.
This strategy limits your risk, but it also might reduce your potential for a large profit.
Hedging can be done through different financial instruments like futures and options.
6 Day Course
Theme: tax on shares & mutual funds
Day 1: Monday
Tax rules change from time to time. Taxes in case of shares and mutual funds also vary.
In this week’s course, we will understand more about taxation on shares and mutual funds, calculation, tax in case of SIPs, etc.
The first thing to note is that shares and equity mutual funds (mutual funds that invest in shares) are treated the same when calculating tax.
Debt mutual funds (mutual funds investing in fixed income securities like bonds) are treated differently from equity mutual funds.
In case of shares and mutual funds, the tax applies only when you sell/withdraw money.
And it applies only on the gains or profits, not the entire invested amount.
We explored the question:
"What if I kept chasing the top mutual fund every single year?"
