Word of the Day
AMO
It is an order type that lets investors place buy/sell orders after the stock markets have shut for the day
AMO = After Market Orders
There are two main types of AMOs: Limit AMO and Market AMO.
In limit AMOs, investors place orders and specify the price at which the trade will take place.
So when the markets open, the stockbroker will buy at the specified price or lower price; and will sell at the specified price or higher.
In market AMOs, the stockbroker executes the order based on the number of stocks specified at whatever price available.
Stocks, ETFs, and derivatives can be traded using AMOs — depending on the platform.
6 Day Course
Theme: GMP in IPOs
Day 2: Tuesday
Let’s say in an IPO, the issue price is determined to be Rs 130. Now, until it lists, different investors will be trying to get the shares.
So demand for these shares is very high and investors are willing to pay as much as Rs 20 above the issue price.
So, unofficially, the share price is Rs 130 + 20 = Rs 150.
At this point, many assume that the share will list at Rs 150 or higher since the market in general seems to be willing to pay Rs 150 per share.
This means, the share issue price is Rs 130. And the Rs 20 extra is the premium over it.
So the GMP (Grey Market Premium) = Rs 20 and the grey market price = Rs 150.
Many investors track the GMP closely to get an indication of how the stock might list.
The higher the GMP, the higher the listing price expectation.
