Word of the Day
Exit Load
It is a fee charged by a mutual fund if you withdraw money before a specific time period
It aims to discourage investors from backing out too early.
The exit load is calculated as a percentage of the withdrawal amount. It applies for a certain period only (example: 1 year from the date of investment).
Example: you withdraw Rs 1 lakh and the exit load is 1%. In this case, the exit load comes to Rs 1,000.
The exit load and the period for which it is applicable varies from mutual fund to mutual fund.
6 Day Course
Theme: most common money-related scams
Day 3: Wednesday
Job offer scams. These are becoming increasingly common as more people seek job opportunities.
The scammer usually tries to imitate a hiring agency and may conduct tests, interviews, and general discussions about pay.
Usually, they then require the applicant to pay a certain amount to get the job.
Scammers become completely silent after receiving this amount.
On a similar note, lottery and prize/gift scams also work in a similar manner — they ask for a deposit amount to get the prize.
This is a good rule of thumb — usually, if the job or gift requires a deposit or amount, it is likely to be a scam.
Loan scams work in a similar manner. Desperate people seeking loans tend to get lured by scammers who ask for a deposit amount before the loan is given to them.
Featured Question
Q. “I am having 30 shares of Bajaj Finance ltd. Now it is decided to split 1:1 followed by 4:1 bonus. After this, how much share will be in my portfolio and what would be it is value…”
The company is going through a 1:2 split. Which means, each share is going to be split in 2 shares.
So:
-You had 30 shares before the split
-You will have 60 shares after the split
Now, after the split, the company is giving bonus shares in the ratio of 4:1.
This means, for each 1 share you own, you will get 4 extra shares.
So:
-You had 60 shares before the bonus shares
-You will get 60 x 4 = 240 shares as bonus
So, your total shareholding will be your existing shares + your bonus shares; 60 + 240 = 300
Total shares = 300 shares.
Technically speaking, the value of the shares will drop by 10 times (30 shares became 300 shares, so each share's value drops by 10 times).
Practically speaking, the price changes based on supply and demand in the markets.
