Word of the Day
Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR)
It is the minimum percentage of deposits that a bank must maintain in the form of cash, gold or government securities
SLR is a reserve requirement, and the reserves are kept with the banks themselves.
Like the Cash Reserve Ratio, SLR is also set by the RBI, and is a monetary policy tool to manage money supply and inflation.
It also makes sure that banks have enough liquidity for their day-to-day obligations.
6 Day Course
Theme: most common money-related scams
Day 2: Tuesday
SIM swaps. In this kind of scam, the scammer is able to gain access to a person’s phone number via the SIM card.
This can then be used to request OTPs to steal money.
The scammer may use Aadhaar credentials or similar identity numbers to convince the SIM card company that you have lost your phone and need a duplicate SIM card.
Once the scammer gets the SIM card, he can insert it in a phone and pretend to be you.
Keeping Aadhaar biometrics locked is a must for this reason.
Also, you should check your SIM card provider’s procedures to obtain a duplicate SIM.
Many SIM card providers have strict rules for providing a duplicate SIM card. Such providers require Aadhaar verification or other such proofs to duplicate a SIM.
Always use SIMs of companies that have such strict procedures in place.
Featured Question
Q. “Nowadays certain Bulk or Block Deals have become a trend. So I wanted to know the difference between Bulk Deals & Block Deals??”
Both are cases where a large number of shares are traded.
In both, the participants are usually promoters and HNIs or institutional investors like mutual funds, banks, private equity funds, etc.
A deal involving more than 5 lakh shares or shares worth more than Rs 10 crore is called a block deal.
A deal involving more than 0.5% of the total shares of a company is called a bulk deal.
Block deals take place in a special time window. The share price in these transactions is fixed. It does not have a direct real-time impact on the share price.
Bulk deals happen during market hours at the live price. So they can end up affecting the share price.
