Word of the Day
Demat Account
It is an account that holds your shares and other securities in digital (dematerialised) form
Just like a bank account holds money, a demat account holds investments such as shares, ETFs, bonds, government securities, and mutual fund units.
It makes buying, selling, and storing investments safer and easier.
To invest in the stock market, you need a demat account to store your securities (along with a trading account).
All demat accounts in India are maintained by NSDL and CDSL.
6 Day Course
Theme: different kinds of buyers/sellers in share market
Day 1: Monday
The stock markets have many different kinds of investors/traders.
Each have different characteristics. They operate differently and have different objectives from the markets.
Let’s dig deeper.
The first is the retail investor.
Retail investors are individual investors who invest their own money. Most retail investors’ income source is not from investing. Example: doctors, lawyers, engineers, salaried employees, etc.
They have relatively small amounts of money to invest. They also tend to be more reactive to news, panic, and euphoria.
Stocks that have a high level of retail investor-ownership tend to be a bit more volatile since such investors tend to sell/buy more frequently.
Since their investment value is less, they usually prefer stocks with a lower price.
So, they are more likely to invest in a company with a stock price of Rs 65 than of Rs 8000.
